Here are some activities your child can do at home while not in school...
- Write your name remembering that the first letter is uppercase and the rest are lowercase. You can write your name using a pencil, paint, write it in shaving cream, mud or in the sand. You can also practice writing lowercase letters and numbers!
- Sort items by color, size or shape. You can sort rocks, shells, toys, clothes, beads or buttons. After sorting the items, count how many are in each set. Which has more? Less? Do any sets have the same amount?
- Make number flashcards. Practice identifying the numbers. Use the cards to put in number order.
- Put items in size order. You can go from biggest to smallest or smallest to biggest.
- Play fun games on the computer or iPad. Try Starfall.com. You can practice letters & sounds, nursery rhymes, math skills and much more!
- Practice jumping, hopping, galloping, skipping, walking backwards. How many times can you hop on one foot?
- Learn your birthday.
- Try some yoga with Cosmic Kids Yoga
- Count backwards from 10. Try it from 15. What about 20?
- Have fun zippering, buttoning and snapping different types of clothing.
- Check out National Geographic for Kids and learn about different animals!
- Did you know the colors of the rainbow are red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet? Draw a rainbow!
- Read a story together. Discuss who the characters are. What is the setting?
- Go for a nature walk. Explore. What did you notice? Draw a picture of something you found.
- Check out: ABCYA for tons of fun learning games!
- Have a dance party.
- Count forward from a number other than one. Try starting at 4, 7 or 12!
- Use objects from home to create a pattern. Maybe try using different colored Legos or buttons. Can you make an AB pattern?
- Count by 10's.
- Try writing your last name!
- Crab crawl around your house. Have crab crawling races. Who won?
- Recite the Pledge of Allegiance.
- Look for animals in your backyard. What did you find? Draw a picture. What do you think it eats?
